The Department of Endocrinology was established at AMC in 1986. Since inception it has remained the only department of Endocrinology along coastal Andhra and has been providing services to the neighbouring districts as well as Orissa. Access to endocrinology services provided by the department involves an outpatient load of 3000‐4000 patients per month as well as care provided in the dedicated Endocrinology ward with 30 beds. Separate OPD services are provided for employees under EHS.

Services offered by the department include outpatient clinics for pediatric patients with type I diabetes, short stature and CAH. The clinical services provide also include cross referral consultations to other departments. In addition, the department faculty often consult in legal cases providing medical opinion on potency in cases of sexual assault in all the coastal districts of the state.

A strong academic curriculum is provided to the post graduate DM trainees with regular seminars, jounal clubs, and bedside case discussions. Research is encouraged for the DM trainess through the DEAR project, a grant initiated by Professor A. Mydhili.
